Sometimes all they need is someone to believe and the 2nd chance they almost never got……Dodge came into the Bakersfield City Shelter as a stray. He was tiny (6lbs) and adorable which should have been a quick adoption but fear took hold and this sweet boy did the only thing he knew how to do, he lashed out not knowing who he could trust. We see this a lot in rescue. Really good dogs who behave completely differently when faced with the stress of a shelter environment. Dodge needed the chance rescue could give him and so we gave him his chance when a wonderful foster home said yes!

Dodge has never looked back! He’s a completely different dog in a home environment. He’s sweet, affectionate, goofy and fun. He lives for any amount of love the humans in his life are willing to give and devotes himself to those humans super fast. He still has a little stranger danger when meeting new people but it never lasts long once he knows new people are safe. Dodge just wants the love he’s never had and we’re determined to find him the perfect home and adoptive family to give him just that.

Dodge is dog friendly and loves playing with the fun small dogs in his foster home. He walks on leash, is crate trained overnight and working on his house training skills.  He rides well in the car, although he occasionally gets car sick, and really seems to enjoy experiencing all the new things his previous family never provided. Dodge definitely has a Pommie voice and will alert when something is amiss but also responds well to correction. Dodge is ready to move from foster to adoption and we can’t wait to find him his perfect home. If you’ve been looking for a little guy ready to give and receive love Dodge can’t wait to meet you!
